Policy
Research ethics policy
How we protect the people who take part in our research.
Principles
Our research respects the dignity, safety and privacy of every participant. We follow recognised standards for research with human participants and Cameroon's national rules on research ethics.
Consent
Participants are told in plain language what a study involves, and take part only with their free and informed consent. They may withdraw at any time without penalty. Research with children requires the consent of a parent or guardian and the child's own agreement.
Approval
Studies that involve people are reviewed before fieldwork begins and, where required, submitted for approval to a recognised ethics committee.
Confidentiality
We remove names and identifying details before analysis and publication, and store data securely.
Independence
Funders and partners cannot change findings or decide whether results are published.
Returning results
We share findings with the communities that took part, in a form they can use.
