DEP-01
Health Policy
Fair access to good care, and the health that learning and work depend on.
Health shapes whether children learn and whether adults can work. The department studies how Cameroon and other low- and middle-income countries can move towards universal health coverage, respond to the rising burden of non-communicable diseases alongside infectious disease, and protect health services when crises strike.
Research themes
Universal health coverage
Financing, insurance and out-of-pocket costs, and who is left without affordable care.
The double burden of disease
Non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension rising alongside malaria and other infections.
Maternal, child and adolescent health
Care in the early years and adolescence, and its links to schooling.
Health in crisis settings
Keeping services running through conflict, displacement and epidemics.
Questions we are asking
- Which financing reforms reduce catastrophic health spending for poor households?
- How does the growth of non-communicable diseases affect education and earnings?
- What keeps primary care working in conflict-affected regions?
